First Post Ever (Of My Own)

Wow - this is my very first posting ever! For my own blog - I mean. I should probably be ashamed of myself...it is 2008 after all. As a matter of fact it's almost 2009. I think most have been blogging for quite some time now. Even my friend Lori is a blogger and she'd be the first to admit she's not really all that tech'y.

I was actually inspired by Lori to start this blog. I don't even think she knows that - well, I guess she does now. Lori is a super talented Artist and has a great blog that showcases her work - you should check her out at http://www.lorisartspace.blogspot.com/. Speaking of Lori - I actually really, really miss having her around - she's one of the warmest people you will ever meet...she moved back to the East coast about 10 years ago...I took it really hard. LOL. I'm serious - I did. Back then (when I was a mere baby - in my late twenties), all we did was sit around and laugh and laugh, and laugh some more! Laugh and go to parties...and get into trouble. We were like Lucy and Ethel (I was Lucy). Who wouldn't miss that kind of friend?

Anyway - I digress (you'll find that I do that a lot). So - what's this blog going to be about? Well getting back to the reason for this blog (my inspiration) - as many of you already know I've been wanting a way to showcase my photography and I thought I'd have my website up already - but lo and behold - being the anal person I am (let me rephrase that) - because I pay such close attention to detail - I can't seem to narrow down my choices for the website. I've spent the last several months looking through the thousands (and I do mean thousands) of photographs I've taken over the past years and can't really seem to come up with the initial collection for my website.

I think that's what this blog will be about/for - it will serve two purposes - to share my life and my photos with my friends (number one) and to also ask your help in assisting me in choosing which photos would ultimately be best for my website (number two).

So with those two things in mind - I will write (share) and post photos as often as I can. And if you would be so kind to share your thoughts, comments and opinions - that would be great. Who knows - at that rate I could actually have a website up by the end of the year...2008 that is!

Ok - so here goes - wish me well and be honest in your critique. Leave lots of comments!!! Tell me what you like, what you don't like (and why), but most importantly - tell me how my work makes you feel. Does it remind you of your childhood or your favorite television show. Or your first date, the prom, your first car, the first time you had your heart broken, the happiest time in your life...tell me...tell me!

One more thing - If you decide you want to post a comment (which I hope you will) - but don't want to take the time to create a blogger/google account - you can post anonymously - but please, please, please sign your name to your post so that I know who's leaving me comments...

Ok - so here goes (really this time) - this first image is from my exhibit last August. This photo is actually a couple of years old. When I turned 40 I took a trip to Greece and I stumbled upon this incredible dome overlooking the waters in Rhodes. You can't really tell what it is - but once inside the dome - if you look up - you'd see this view of the ceiling. If you look really closely you'll see that there's writing on the inner circle - if you know what it says - please - by all means let me know.

I look forward to reading your comments!

KK

  2. I'm glad that you're risking. This is like reaching out to a massive crowd for touchy feedback. That takes guts. I do love the picture because I wasn't sure what it was until i read all the way down at the bottom of your blog. That made me reconsider the photo because I didn't realize it was a photo, I thought it was a photo art piece. That it's a real thing is very cool.

stay with it. I'll be checking in.

  4. KK, how awesomely awesome of you! I was already a fan of your photography, but to now be able to see it on a regular basis AND give you feedback on it? My excitement can best be described as...excitement. Congrats!

  5. Oh, I forgot to say that I love this piece. I agree with a previous comment that I love it even more once I found out it wasn't an illustration but a photograph. And I'm totally interested in what it says. Care to share?

  6. Hey KK! Congrats on your first blog. I love the photo and I have to echo the previous posts in saying that it's way more cool in knowing that it is an actual photograph and not an art piece. Johanna thinks the writing in the dome might be latin. I'm sending the photo off to my brother at Harvard to see if he can come up with something!

  10. Markus - thank you so much. If anybody knows about putting himself "out there" it's you! Congrats on your book...

Shay - you inspire me in ways you don't even know. If only I could be as half as talented as you are.

Dwayne - I too am dying to know what it says - I have no clue! Let's hope christeenybeenie's brother can figure it out...

Christeenybeenie - if the Harvard grad can't figur it out - then I don't know...Jo might be on to something though...

Daheli - yes...that was me! It happened at 4:11am this morning. It was only a 4.0 on the scale though - wait 'til the website hits!!!...

Vicki M.T. - I'm scheduled for another show in February '09 thus far. Yeah...the red door...Heaven or Hell????...

Amber - Those are definitely your kind of colors - huh? Thanks for "plusing" my title - it rocks!

  11. Hey girl...the photograph is groovy and should be shared with the world. You're not being reticent - you're being selfish!!! Now show us those photos if you know what's good for you.

    More, please...

  15. Hey Karen,
I really like the blog, I think its a cool way of getting the community involved. As far as what photos to put up, I think you should put up different categories of photos(once you get you web-site started). That way you show your range. I also really like the photo you put up. I always like when i am looking at something my brain cannot label, but is still interested in exploring.

  16. It's beautiful! Great color, great composition. How does it make me feel? Happy. (and the colors remind me of the coral reefs I'll be seeing soon in Indonesia).

    Thanks for sharing.

  18. Okay, this is sad - and apparently my first response to a blog ever. I only say that because it took me forever [drugs] to figure out how to get to this screen. Now, having said that, congrats Karen on yet another trip of your light fantastic toe into new world of discovery, inspiring me to do the same for myself [will I...?]. I can't wait to see where it takes you...though I will.

  19. Okay, so I forgot the 'feedback' part, so, here it is. First of all, it's beautiful - it reminds me of the sun, stars...the sky basically. I love the palatte. Actually it looks more like a painting than a photo. Again it is beautiful - what is it?

  22. What I like best about this photo is how it mirrors eyes as they adjust to the moon. It appears, you can't quite make it out, then you do, and it's beautiful. I haven't seen the other photos yet but this one should definitely be on the site. Congrats!
