Apocalypse Now?

Perhaps I'm being a little dramatic with the title as clearly this is not Vietnam...

Strangely enough - it's right here in California - only a few hours in on Route 66...certainly not the Route 66 I remember from Cars.

I won't tell you how I shot this because I actually want to post that photo next - but you tell me...obviously it's shot through a window...but what's the scenario here - take a wild guess...

Can you paint the picture for me using your words???

  2. A Diner. A proud retired reminder of what was. The motel/diner/service world of route 66 that's still holding court with the desert.

  3. KK, are you in a train with porthole windows? Or an above water submarine?! :)

  4. Karen, It looks like it was taken from the inside porthole of a junked boat or what is left of a boat!

    Although it's very mysterious.

  6. I just saw the film "Into the Wild" not to long ago and this picture kind of reminds me of that movie. I'm not sure if you've seen it, but the main character, Alex (I believe), goes into the Alaskan wilderness and finds an abandoned bus that me makes his home. The way that Sean Penn directed it, sometimes we saw out the window of the bus from Alex's viewpoint. So, as an audience I could look throught the bus window and see the expanse of open wilderness around him.
In that vain, the photo give me a feeling of desloation and isolation.
OK, so my guess is that somehow there is an abandoned plane in the middle of wherever you are and you shot through one of the windows OR perhaps you are on a train? It really looks like a cruise ship window to me, but I can't imagine that there would be an abandoned cruise ship somewhere????

  9. I'm waiting for JAWS to swim by, but I guess that would be more of a land shark. Either way, cool and eerie.

  10. Hi karen,
This is very eerie... I feel it was taken from an abandoned ship .. that's what the window reminds me of..a sad view for sure but definitely a great talking piece... I feel like each one of your photos is a talking piece!
